The Gilded Frame

The Gilded Frame
Paris, France
From a quiet vantage overlooking the Pont Alexandre III in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, the scene unfolds across the River Seine.
Built between 1896 and 1900, the bridge is a low-slung 107.5-meter single-span structure that crosses the river without a supporting pier in the water. This engineering solution preserved the historic skyline; it had to be high enough for river traffic to pass beneath it, yet low enough to maintain the sightline to the dome of Les Invalides.
The painting is part of an ongoing collection on built frameworks titled Remembrance.
